Bakersfield's 2018 Boy of the Year
As a mom, I’m sure you can understand how frightening it was to hear that my 10 month old baby boy had cancer. In May 2013, my son Jayce was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) after initially getting bronchitis at 4 months old and approximately 6 months of doctor visits, breathing treatments and being sent home.
He hadn’t been feeling well, sleeping all the time and when I picked him up he would cry like he was hurting. When we finally learned he had AML they told us he also had pneumonia. I nearly passed out after hearing this terrifying news!

Bakersfield's 2018 Girl of the Year
It was Aug 2016 that Audrey became very sick. I was taking her back and forth from one urgent care and emergency room to another. Only to be told, "She has a virus. Just let her ride it out".
She would wake up in the night screaming in pain. Her whole little body ached all over and she wouldn't walk because her legs hurt; so we carried her everywhere.

Grand Finale Gala
The 2019 Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale Gala will cap off a ten-week campaign in which participants compete to see who can raise the most money to help find cures for all blood cancers. About 300 people are expected to attend this prestigious black-tie event, which features a cocktail hour, dinner, music, silent and live auctions and the announcement of the Man & Woman of the Year winners.
