Daxtin’s journey began at his 1 year old well baby check up.  The pediatrician noticed an enlarged spleen and ordered some labs. Daxtin’s white blood cell count was over 68,000 (the normal range is 6,000-17,000 for a toddler).  Daxtin was diagnosed with leukemia at Arkansas Children's Northwest in November, 2018.

The first few weeks of the journey were quite complicated, and in January, 2019 Daxtin received a new diagnosis, Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML) at Arkansas Children's in Little Rock.  This diagnosis is extremely rare; Daxtin is only the 3rd known case of his type of JMML.  The only known cure is a bone marrow transplant. The search for a bone marrow donor didn't last very long as thankfully Daxtin's older sister Aria was a match. 

A little over one year later, Daxtin received his sister's stem cell collection.  His parents think of this stem cell date, March 26, 2020 as his "new birthday".  There were some scary days following the stem cell collection, but then on day 32 Daxtin and his family received the great news that the transplant was a success.  

Daxtin's journey has been very long and complicated, and thankfully Daxtin is thriving in remission.
