A note from Judy on why we are doing this event:

Like many of you, I have witnessed first-hand the debilitating effects that leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, myeloma, and many other blood cancers can have on a child or adult, and their families. My family received assistance from LLS when my daughters’ father, Mark, was fighting his long battle with cancer. Their financial assistance, emotional support, and patient advocacy was such a Blessing to him, and my girls. He was able to attend support groups with other patients fighting a similar battle, as well as educate himself on his disease by attending conferences where research oncologists were there to answer his many questions. The monthly financial support during treatment was also a massive weight lifted off of his shoulders.

After Mark passed, my youngest daughter, Lauren ran for LLS Student of the Year during her senior year in high school. Being part of her team allowed me to learn what an impact LLS has right here in our community. We had the opportunity to meet with many families impacted by the organization’s tremendous efforts and see that LLS is truly making a difference in the lives of so many! Lauren’s “why” in running was in honor of her Dad, my “why” is to keep the efforts of LLS going!

Every 3 minutes someone in the US is diagnosed with blood cancer. Through programs like Man & Woman of the Year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has invested more than $1 billion since its inception on research to advance breakthrough therapies. In fact, nearly 40% of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA since 2000 were first approved for a blood cancer, and LLS helped advance most of them. I am proud to rally the support of the Grand Rapids Real Estate community for the benefit of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!
